Frequently Asked Questions
Do you need power and heating to install flooring?
Yes, in order to adhere to manufacturers guidelines, power and heating are required.
Is my carpet bleach cleanable?
Please refer to the relevant manufacturer’s website for information.
How do I activate my Amtico guarantee?
You can activate your Amtico guarantee by visiting the website: www.amtico.com/flooring/products/warranty-information/
Do I have a fitting guarantee or warranty?
Yes, a fitting guarantee is available for 2 years from point of installation.
Will furniture scratch my LVT?
Yes, there is a high chance that this could happen. To avoid this, you should ensure all furniture feet or bases have felt padding applied. You can also check the manufacturer’s website for more detailed instruction on this.
Will furniture indent my cushion vinyl?
Yes, heavy furniture can mark or leave indents in your vinyl floor covering.
Do I have a manufacturers guarantee?
In order to activate a guarantee, you will need to register your flooring with the manufacturer directly as each manufacturer offers a different warranty period for each type of flooring. This only covers any manufacturing faults of the product that they agree to after an inspection.
Can matting/mats discolour my vinyl/LVT flooring?
Yes, matting can draw the colour from your flooring product.
Is it normal for my vinyl to bubble?
Yes. As your new build property settles, moves and temperatures changes in your plot, including internal heating, can cause the flooring to bubble. However, this is normal and can easily be resolved.
Can I use a steam cleaner on my LVT floor?
No, it is recommended you should not use a steam cleaner as it can damage the adhesive holding the tiles in place.
What vacuum cleaner should I use on my LVT?
We recommend the use of a dust mop to collect daily dust and debris. The weight of heavy, upright vacuums can cause damage to hard floors.
Do you have a CITB certificate?
Yes, we do have a CITB certificate.
Do you have SMAS ?
Yes, we are SMAS accredited. Health and safety are of the utmost importance to our company.
What is the acceptable joint gap in an installation of Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT) plank or tile and why does gapping happen?
From both a manufacturing and installation perspective, it is very difficult to install individual pieces of an LVT plank or tile and not have any visible joints or gaps. These should not be viewed as defects, for the following reasons. Firstly, there may be an expectation that an installed floor finish will be completely free of any visible joints, an expectation that should be considered and managed. It is also important to understand some of the factors that affect a resilient floorcovering installation. All resilient floorcovering manufacturers produce products to a specification and “manufacturing tolerance”, which we will come on to later. Subfloor undulation, temperature variation and movement, colour and adhesive selection for “stick down” LVT can also be a factor. Subfloor undulations can affect installation and will cause discrepancies in the plank or tile size, as a dip in the floor will make that area longer than that surrounding it. As a result, the fixed-size plank or tile cannot cover the distance without having gaps in the joints. Even small undulations can influence gapping. Clearly, the smaller the piece of floorcovering, the greater the potential for gapping. Seasonal temperature and variations in ambient conditions will cause thermal expansion (warmer conditions) and contraction (cooler conditions). This movement affects the building structure, the subfloor and the floor covering. Thermal and general movement must be considered, as this will also have an influence on the floorcovering and the potential for gapping, especially on timber, chipboard and plywood subfloors. The colour of the selected floorcovering will have an influence, as lighter colours will show the joints more easily than that of a darker one. When installing “stick down” LVT, some adhesives will also allow the floorcovering to move slightly, especially high-tack, pressure-sensitive type adhesives. Due to their nature, they remain soft and tacky, allowing the floorcovering to move slightly.
